Topics that work
- Animals
- Monsters/magic
- Rockets/stars/space
- Travelling
- School
- Adventures
- African story books
(Amazon.co.uk has an amazing range of African animal tales - cheap and colourful and the right level)
Types of books
- Pop ups
- Non fiction (primary level)
- We seriously need more non fiction - the Usbourne Beginners series is the sort of thing, Also atlases etc
- Colourful/lots of pictures
- Counting books
Level to aim at
- Primary level books
- For English kids age 5 to 10 ideally
- We don’t need anymore baby books or novels
Topics to avoid
- Money
- Food
- Western customs eg Christmas / tooth fairy
Good places to look for reasonably priced books
- Discount book shops such as Books Etc or The Works
- Amazon or other online retailers
TOP TIPS
- It is better to donate 4 or 5 of the same book than 5 different ones.
- Go for thin paperback books they weigh a lot less!
