Working together to make your next adventure a Book Bus adventure

The Book Bus volunteer programme started in May 2008 with reading visits to 5 schools in Lusaka, Zambia. Since then hundreds of volunteers have inspired thousands of children to read in Zambia, Malawi and Ecuador and we have donated more than 20,000 books to 35 schools in Africa and 8,000 books to 20 schools in South America.

To make this happen the Book Bus relies on the expert services of VentureCo Worldwide, a specialist travel company based in the UK. VentureCo’s travel professionals have been organising and operating expeditions and projects in Africa, Asia and South America since the 1980’s and they are experts at moving our volunteers and books around the world. Their dedicated in-country teams have taken our Book Buses to schools in remote places such as the Luangwa Valley and UN refugee camps in Zambia, the Shire Valley in Malawi and the Amazon region of Ecuador.

As a volunteer you can rely on VentureCo to prepare you for your Book Bus placement. They will send a comprehensive volunteer pack including the Book Bus Field Manual with a packing list, medical and inoculation advise, visa and passport requirements, suggested reading and a whole lot more. The volunteer help line is open every day Monday – Friday to help you with any queries you may have. VentureCo will organise your flight plan to get you to the right place at the right time and , if you have time to spare, they can organise additional travel arrangements before or after your Book Bus placement.

For your peace of mind, VentureCo provide a 24/7 emergency backup service for volunteers in the field and all travel arrangements organised with VentureCo are protected by ATOL.
