Book in every hand

Zambia Book Appeal: Target reached and exceeded! 20,372 Books!
A
big thank you to all of our book donors who have supported this year's
‘book in every hand appeal’ for Zambia; we surpassed our initial target
of 5,000 books in December and have now reached the massive total of
20,372 books! The books began their journey to Zambia on 10 February and
our courier DHL expect them to arrive in May. Half of this consignment
will go to the UNHCR refugee settlement in Meheba and half to children
near our base in Livingstone.

How you can help next year
Do
you know that the cost of a new story book is greater than the weekly
income of many families in Malawi? Hard to believe isn't it?
What's
not so hard to believe is that child literacy is the greatest single
factor to offer poor families long term and sustainable alleviation from
poverty. This is indeed promising news.
The really good bit is
that you can play your part in helping others by giving books and/or a
small donation to our Book in Every Hand appeal.
Your support for the “Book in Every Hand” appeal will bring the joy of reading into family homes throughout Malawi
Once
we have collected our target of 10,000 books we’ll ship them to Malawi
for distribution to children throughout the country. For most of these
children their new book will be the first that they have owned . . .
ever!
It gets even better because the Book Bus and its crew
of volunteer reading assistants will work with every one of these
children in 2013 so that they get the most out of their reading
experience and become confident readers for life.
Our target of 10,000 books will spead so much joy to children in Malawi and by raising £4,000 we can make sure that they get there.
