Library development campaign 2011
Appeal for funding to renovate libraries and train librarians
Target: £5,000
Deadline: 30 September 2011
As well as providing a mobile library and reading service the Book Bus encourages the use of local libraries both within and outside of school. We will stock libraries with fresh books and where there isn’t a library we will work with the community to convert an existing building or even construct a new one.
The most important factor in any library is the librarian who must be trained to run the lending scheme, maintain the books and above to encourage children (and adults) to come inside and discover the magic of reading.
Making books available to children can be as simple as installing a school Book Corner which will store securely up to 200 books or by building a purpose built library from scratch that will become a centre of information with fiction and reference books.
In 2011 the Book Bus aims to raise £5000 to renovate and stock 5 school libraries in Malawi and to provide a trained librarian for each one. Every donation , however big or small, will help the Book Bus put more books into the communities that need them most.
The easiest way to make your donation is through one of the on line facilities displayed on the right. You can dedicate your donation to the Library Development Campaign 2011 by stating “Library Campaign 2011” in the message box of the on-line giving form.
