Literacy Changes Lives A book in every hand

Literacy Changes Lives

Being able to read is a basic human right. People who are literate can take charge of their own lives. With a helping hand and engaging books, more and more children are learning to read.

Since 2006 the Book Bus has donated more than 90,000 books to the children of Zambia and Malawi and Ecuador; over 1,000 Book Bus volunteers have helped bring the joy of reading to more than 100,000 children through story telling and assisted reading activities.

We now have five Book Buses working daily supporting local teachers with their literacy programmes. We employ local teams who work with the children on structured reading programmes and we've build libraries and helped stock reading corners in 100s of schools.

We work in motivated communities that have shown as commitment to improving literacy and our work delivers positive results.

How Can I Donate?
The Book Bus is a charity funded entirely through voluntary donations. Our donors have helped over five thousand children improve their reading and writing skills since 2008. In 2013/14 we are raising funds for books, classroom resources and our magnificent Book Bus fleet, your contribution will help many more children benefit from these valuable resources.
