Professional network aids the Book Bus

Volunteer and librarian Marjorie Gagnon put her professional network to good use when she signed up for the Book Bus. Working in higher education, she interacted with hundreds of students including publisher Darryl Glover. When Darryl told Marjorie about his latest book The Pirate Kitty she knew the book had to be included in the collection! Darryl’s publishing house, Magic Star Publishing, generously donated copies of The Pirate Kitty to the Book Bus. Check back here soon to read more about how the Zambian children are enjoying the story!

Marjorie’s links also came in handy when her library friends from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business sent a substantial box of library supplies including color labels and book protectors, to ensure that the Book Bus collection is well taken care of for this and all future summers!

A family first for The Book Bus
PDF Print E-mail

Hardcastle family The Hardcastle family of Clevedon, Somerset are busy raising funds to be our very first family aboard The Book Bus.

Planning to volunteer in May 2009, the family are currently preparing for this working holiday.

“We are thrilled to be having a family aboard” said Jo Payne of The Book Bus, “Especially as Helen Hardcastle will be our very first volunteer UK teacher. This will enable us to focus on developing the skills of community school teachers. It is volunteers like the Hardcastle’s which can really add depth and backbone to our project”
